Dear Friends,

We are pleased to present the 2003 edition of this directory of food producers in and around Johnson County. By buying your produce, meat, eggs, and other products directly from local farmers, you can obtain some of the freshest, healthiest, and most flavorful food available. You will also be contributing to a healthier farm economy by giving growers a chance to diversify and earn additional income through food production. This benefits our environment, as well. Since farmers use a variety of soil and water conservation practices, helping them to stay on the farm means they can maintain their stewardship of the land. In addition, food that is produced for local consumption doesn’t have to be shipped hundreds and thousands of miles, thus reducing fossil fuel use. We hope that you will join us in support of our local food producers, and that you will enjoy celebrating Iowa’s bounty!
